A Very Unique College in Which to Study Environmental Science

By: Daniel Z. Kane

If you get cold just thinking about Alaska, or if your idea of a great time outdoors is putting on headphones and walking your dog for ten or fifteen minutes, read no further.

But, if Alaska is your idea of a wonderful place to live, keep reading. You may be about to fall in love with a university.

Alaska Pacific University is an institution very unlike others. It's two hundred acre campus, which students and faculty share with moose, birds, and other animals, includes miles of walking trails and a lake. Education is not limited to the classroom. And, the University mission includes producing environmentally aware and friendly citizens.

While students may choose to major in liberal arts or business, APU seems most suited to those interested in fields like marine biology, outdoor studies, environmental studies, or environmental policy and planning.

And, what better place could there be to learn about these areas? As the APU website says, "True wilderness is only half an hour away".

And, students can take advantage of University courses in Hawaii, Borneo, Paris, Barcelona, and Vietnam during the APU January block.

APU is certainly not for everyone, but if the environment and the great outdoors are your passions, the University has a lot to offer you.
