Cats and Fleas

By: Timothy Aston

One of the first things you should have in your home is a flea comb. Once home, take your kitten to the bathroom and run a flea comb through its coat whilst reassuring it. The base of the tail, and behind each ear are places you should pay particular attention to when looking for fleas. Discovering one is enough to know that this is an problem that requires your attention.

In your kitty grooming box, you should have picked up something that will both kill off the fleas, and be safe for a newborn kitten. Have this ready for when you first bring kitten into your home and if you find a flea on your kitten, follow the instructions on the box or bottle. Your kitten will aready feel nervous and insecure at this moment, so try not to startle it as much as possible. In order to keep the feline calm try to keep away all other family members and pets. Once clean, your kitten can meet the family though you shouldn't let it back into the cat carrier or onto any bedding it's had previous contact with. Please ensure that it is throughly washed out prior to its return.

In the majority of cases you kitten will arrive with no fleas, but being prepared just in cae can help avoid a potentially big job.
