Edmonton a Great Place for an Education

When you think of settling down somewhere you have to consider the employment opportunities available in that place. You can't possibly make a decent living in a stagnant economy where there are few jobs and hardly any opportunity for progress. The way to assess the potential of the employment scene of a place is to look at the education level of the residents and the overall commitment of the community to education.

Edmonton is a Canadian city that is definitely worth considering when thinking of places to spend the next few years. The workforce of Edmonton hovers around 580,000 people so there is an ample tax base to support the education system and ensure future economic and technological growth. The truly amazing thing is that nearly 46 percent of those 580,000 workers have a post-secondary education. While having 46 percent of the population with a post- secondary education is indeed amazing, it is less so when you consider the fact that there are no fewer than 10 universities and colleges located within the Edmonton metropolitan area not including a number of technical institutes. Two very noticeable educational facilities in Edmonton are University of Alberta and the Grant MacEwan College. The former has an enrollment of 33,000 full and part-time students and the latter has 57,000 students. The students of the Grant MacEwan College are either getting trained to immediately join the work force or earning credits to move to a university.

For those of you who have children, Edmonton offers both public and private education school system from kindergarten through 12th grade. However, you need to select your neighborhood carefully, because some of the private institutions can charge fairly steep tuition fee although public education is free.

When you think of a new place to spend some prime years of your life, you like to evaluate the opportunities of earning money and prospects of making money. Another important consideration is the availability of good schools and educational institutes for children. Edmonton is definitely one of the very few big cities that generously provide for stable living environment and abundant opportunities. It is definitely one of the destinations where you would like to relocate.
